The Gardens
Old Bridge is surrounded by nearly two acres of beautiful gardens.
The south side of the house has a spacious paved patio area, leading onto the south lawn which rises to a massive 500 year old sweet chestnut tree (said to be as old as the house?!). This huge and impressive tree dominates the south side of the lawn and offers a shaded vantage point with seating and overlooks the house, lawns and marquee.
The garden to the north of the house is a wooded area of mature ash, walnut, oak and mulberry. With gravel paths and a flowing stream this is a quiet area to wander and relax, and the observant will see tree creepers, long tailed tits, wood peckers, nuthatches and one of our regular kingfishers. This area also lends itself for private and romantic photographs.
On the West side, the front lawn is bordered by a formal clipped yew hedge and rose beds and this square flat lawn in front of the house is the perfect place, we suggest, to welcome guests as they come from their cars, for drinks and canapés before moving to the marquee.
All areas are wheelchair friendly (no steps), and represent a peaceful, rural, mature country garden surrounding the 16th Century house.
