Old Bridge
Local Area
Nestling in rural South Somerset, we are surrounded by our own farmland and have no near neighbours. Our nearest village, South Petherton, is just over a mile away, with a bank, post office and all the essentials. For more adventurous shopping, Yeovil is 10 miles and Taunton 16 miles. Or you could try the famous Clarks Village at Street.
As you can see from the map, we are well placed as a base for visits to beautiful Bath or Exeter, even Exmoor, but why not sample the pure delights closer to home. Somerset is famous for cider, and there is none better than Burrow Hill Cider and their renowned distilled Cider Brandy. The area is well served with good pubs and restaurants. Less than half a mile through the lanes is the excellent New Farm Restaurant which we would certainly recommend.
Somerset is not only known for its apples and cider; we are also rich in beautiful churches and National Trust properties, of which there are some real gems just a few miles from us - Montacute House, Barrington Court, Lytes Cary and Stourhead - and some private houses and gardens well worth a visit also, for instance Forde Abbey and Hestercombe.

Good family days out can be spent at Cricket St Thomas Wildlife Park or at the Cheddar Caves and Gorge or the spooky Wookey Hole Caves on the Mendips. Also, less than an hour's drive are Longleat, Abbotsbury, Glastonbury and Wells. On a wet day, try the Haynes Motor Museum or the Fleet Air Arm Museum at RNAS Yeovilton. If it's leisure parks that you want, Crealy or Brean should be able to offer all the thrills and splashes you could wish for. Leaflet details of all these will be available in the house.
If the weather is good, you will probably want to relax by the pool, play a little tennis and leave the car parked in the drive! If sea and sand is what you want, lovely Lyme Regis or Weymouth are just 45 minutes to the south.
